North Pinellas County has a lovely mix of charming turn of the century bungalows as well as elegant newly constructed estates. There's a good deal of Gulf-front property in the cities of Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Ozona and the Greek sponge-diving village of Tarpon Springs. Bay front property is available in Safety Harbor and Oldsmar - the historic city established by Ransom E. Olds the creator or Oldsmobile and REO automobiles. Two major malls for the area include: Clearwater Mall, an outdoor arrangement of major retailers and Country Side Mall a traditional multi-anchor Westfield property that features Macy's, Dillards, Sears and JC Penny's. There are no freeways in North Pinellas County and only a few east-west thoroughfares as 25,000 acre Lake Tarpon is centered on the land in this northern part of the county. Public transportation is available via Pinellas County Transit Authority but it does not travel to all areas. They do have good maps of the area that show where the bus routes go and the schedules. The Pinellas County School District offers a program called School Choice which allows parents to choose a school, within designated areas. There are schedules for enrollment and processes for those who move into the area after the deadlines. Colleges in North Pinellas include the Tarpon Campus of St. Petersburg College which is now a four year institution with a variety of degree programs, full time, part time and professional degree programs.
